Challenges during the implementation of Information systems.

Welcome back to the third edition of my digital economy news and updates 2023 blog. I hope everyone enjoyed last weeks blog where we dove into why Ireland is such a great place to do business.

 

Today we are going to look into the challenges that some companies will often struggle with when implementing information systems. Firstly, lets discuss what an information system is- “An information system (IS) is an interconnected set of components used to collect, store, process and transmit data and digital information.” (Techtarget,2023). Now that we know what an information system is we can discuss the challenges that come with the implementation of them.

 

Inadequate training tools

A major challenge facing a company when an information system Is installed is the preparedness of the teams surrounding this IS if there isn’t proper time and resources allocated to the training of employees there will be some major challenges arise from the systems implementation a way around this would be to set out some training days and sessions for employees to attend to make sure they are ready for the new system. 

 

Data Integrity

The importance of data integrity when an information system is being implemented is key. It can cause a major issue for companies if the correct data is not transferred across systems properly and it’s also a major issue if the wrong data is transferred across. The company must ensure that no critical data is lost in the transfer or left behind. A way around this complication would be a proper discussion with the vendor and also the IT department to ensure that everyone has the same understanding when it comes to the data transfer.

 

Decline in productivity.

There is a possibility there could be a decline in productivity when a new system is being implemented in a company. This can in turn provide big challenges for a company as the morale across employees can decrease and there can be a loss of job productivity engaging with the employees to stop this from happening would be important in an organisation to make sure morale stays high.
